Iceland Photo Diary

So if you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that my sister and I disappeared to Iceland for a few days back in December for a little break. It is quite possibly the most beautiful country I’ve ever been to, even though it was bleak and grey throughout our trip. I’m going to keep this brief, simply because I could go on and on about it but I’ve managed to narrow down the top photos from the trip for you to get a little glimpse into this picturesque country.

hallgrimskirkja, cathedral, church, iceland, reykjavik, sightseeing, tourism,

Leifur Eiriksson, iceland, reykjavik, sightseeing, statue, tourism, viking, norway, norwegian, norse, settler,

Let’s start off with the beautiful Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral and the statue of Leifur Eiriksson – aka the guy who discovered North American way before Christopher Columbus. The cathedral is a gorgeous work of architecture and we even went in the elevator up eight floors to the tower for some of the most fantastic views of Reykjavik city.

hallgrimskirkja, cathedral, tower, view, scenery, iceland, reykjavik, mount esja, mountsin, esja, church, sightseeing, tourism, iceland

In the background, you can see a glimpse of the famous Mount Esja. The waterfront is beautiful and the water is so peaceful and undisturbed – even through gale force winds and hail and sleet and rain and every other weather you could imagine. The views from the Hallgrimskirkja tower were more than expected. We could see for miles.

Bonus if you can spot the Icelandic Giant. Comment if you spot him but don’t say where!

gullfoss, waterfall, double waterfall, sightseeing, tourism, iceland, travel

This is Gullfoss Waterfall – my main attraction to Iceland. This waterfall is the only double waterfall in Iceland and it’s absolutely beautiful don’t you think? Unfortunately, the wind and rain was against us so please excuse the water spots ruining the photo. It was breathtaking and is a definite must-see on any Iceland trip.

waterfront, statue, lava, rock, iceland, reykjavik, harbour, sun voyager, solfar

Solfar, the sun voyager, sun voyager, statue, iceland, reykjavik, harbour, mount esja, esja

These are two very gorgeous statues situated on the Reykjavik waterfront. I have no idea if the first one has a name as it had no plague or information about it but it just looked so lovely on our morning walk along the waterfront. The second is the ever so famous Solfar aka The Sun Voyager, with the beautiful Mount Esja in the background.

This is literally just a small handful of the photographs I took whilst in Iceland. If you want to see all of them, you can check out my public Facebook album – Iceland 2016 and if you’re feeling adventurous, check out my other public album from out visit to The Icelandic Phallological Museum and see all sorts of different phallus’. *childlike giggle*

Have you ever been to Iceland or would you like to visit? I would highly recommend taking the trip. I plan on returning for a summer visit to go whale-watching but in the winter time, you can always book a Northern Lights tour and watch the sky dance.

My Crystal Collection

It may come as a surprise to you, but I use crystals. Before you jump to any conclusions, hear me out. They have seriously helped my mental health. You may wonder how they do that. Am I crazy? Is it all a placebo effect? Am I talking utter shite? The answers to those questions are probably, possibly and most likely. BUT, I know how I feel and these help me tremendously.

This is just going to be a little introductory post to my crystal collection because I’m hoping this goes well and you guys enjoy it so I can write more about them like how I use them and for what etc. So please do let me know in the comments if you’d like to see some more on the crystals, how I use them, what I use them for, their properties etc etc.

crystals, crystal collection, chakra, chakra crystals, chakras, chakra stones,

This is my current collection. I prefer to buy my crystals in-store but since I no longer live in the big city where there are shops that sell crystals, I have resorted to buying some of them online. I use the website Pagan Dreams because I have always had great customer service and the crystals are all beautiful and I really like the way they feel.

I’ve organised them into colour coded categories. I could have organised them a million different ways such as energies, elements, alphabetically and on and on but I shall save that for future posts if you like this one. Here is my full crystal collection.

I’ll have to say that my absolute favourites are Bloodstone, Opal, African Turquoise and Mookaite Jasper. I just get really good vibes from them and they seem to really work well for me and I find myself reaching for them more often than the others.

I hope you liked this brief little post and if you did, let me know in the comments if you’d like to see more about these crystals or even what your favourite one is!

Thoughts In A Day

Lifestyle, Lists

thoughts, thinking, thoughts in a day, what I thought, what I am thinking, what i'm thinking, what i think, food for thought

I wish there were more hours in the day to sleep.

I want new bedding. Dark navy or Galaxy maybe? That would look cool. I could sleep happily inside a black hole LAWLS.

I really need to tidy my bedroom. Like where did half this stuff even come from?

Why do I have so many candles? Oh yeah, because I keep buying them but they’re way too cute to burn. Ugh, dilemmas.

Bandit is my favourite being ever. We’ve only had him for two and half years and yet I can’t imagine life without him.

Ugh, why do all my tv shows have to end at the same time? What am I supposed to watch now? *ends up watching Big Brother*

My mouth is so dry. I need to drink more water but I don’t want to pee constantly.

I could eat chicken every day for the rest of my life and still die happy.

Do meat-eaters who slate vegans ONLY eat meat and no veg?

I would rather wait until tomorrow to download my tv shows on catch-up than watch those annoying flipping adverts.

Did that Oral B advert just play twice back to back? It did. Wow. I’m going to tweet them that.

I wish daytime naps were acceptable. I read that in China, or was it Japan? Some companies let their employees go for short naps throughout the day to refresh their minds. I need that.

I miss Bandit so much and I’m not even away from him. I just want cuddles.

Why does the boy in the Fairy advert ask the dad for the empty bottle when the mum is the one doing the dishes? Um, sexist much.

How many cups of tea have I had? I’ve lost count. That can’t be a good thing.

Why is there no food in the fridge? How am I supposed to eat without any decent food int he fridge? I’m going to starve now.

I need to stop talking to myself. I’m pretty sure the neighbours think I’m insane when they hear me in the garden.

I haven’t watched The Princess Bride is so long. I should watch it.

How did I eat 6 Ferrero Rochers?? I have no memory of this.

[Browsing Amazon] I want that. Oh I want that too. Quick add to list. Add to list. ADD TO FUCKING LIST.

Omg why did I just buy that? Cancel order. Reason? Because I’m an impulsive-buying bitch. They don’t have that option. Why not? That should be an option. Oh well, I better click ‘cheaper elsewhere’ in the hopes they reduce it so I can impulse-buy it again.

I have an itch in the middle of my back and my arms aren’t long enough to reach it. Times like this, I wish Bandit understood English better because his claws would do a great job with this.

Hmm, what do I fancy for dinner? Pasta? Nah, had that yesterday. Salad? That was lunch. Can’t be too healthy yo.

I always moan about how clingy Bandit is but when he isn’t, I miss him so much.

America Ferrera is gorgeous.

I can’t find my red glasses.

I need to book an eye test. I’m like 8 months overdue.

I wish I had the balls to start my own podcast. My ramblings should be heard by the masses.

Why am I not rich? See if I were minted, I’d be sooo happy!

I need more pyjamas. Okay, I don’t need more, but I want more.

I’m so tired. I think I’ve done that dolphin thing where half my brain has been sleeping throughout the day.

Why is Instagram so hard??

I always get loads of followers after a Twitter rant. I’m starting to realise what the people want. MORE RANTS.

I hate Big Brother but I have nothing else to watch and it’s so addictive watching them explode on each other.

I should moisturise more. Or should I say, at all.

I really need to shave my legs but then I’d HAVE to moisturise them and I can’t be bothered with all that malarky.

I can show you the world… Shining, shimmering, splendid!! [to Bandit] Tell me Princess, now when did you last let your heart decide??

I need a haircut. I should cut it right now before I forget.

Where’s the scissors? Ew, I’m not using the kitchen scissors, who even knows what they’ve touched?

My hair is too curly to cut, why did I think this was a good idea?

Well that went as planned…. NOT!

Looks like it’ll be up-do’s from now on.

Oh my goodness, my bed feels like I’ve laid down on a cloud of candy floss.

This is so relaxing. I am so ready to fall asleep right now.

10 Facts About Bandit

After writing my 20 Facts About Me post and introducing you all to bandit a long time ago, this post is way overdue. It’s no surprise that Bandit is my favourite being – he’s cute, clingy and super lovable. He’s my bubby and I lerve him so I wanted to share with y’all some facts about him that you probably don’t know.

If you don’t know who Bandit is, then umm excuse me?? Just kidding, head over to his Meet Me post for the basic info and if you’re interested in seeing him more, you can see the photos post I published all about him.

Anyway, while B is currently all nustled into my back behind me on the sofa, it is the perfect time to tell you some fun facts about my boo.

bandit, staffordshire bull terrier, staffy, staffy dog, dog, puppy, brindle, mixed breed, bully boy,

  1. He’s a Saggitarius (17th December 2013) which complements my Gemini so well according to an astrology website that says they’re perfect companions yipee.
  2. He is super clingy, in case you hadn’t notice from all the tweets I put out, but Bandit has some attachment issues because he has to constantly be physically touching you. Whether it’s a paw, his nose, head or back, a part of him has to touch you for him to be content. Going to the bathroom is a nightmare.
  3. He is SUCH an ice cream snob. He loves vanilla ice cream but it can only be Ben & Jerry’s vanilla ice cream. We’ve deliberately held off on the Carte D’Or or Häagen-dazs for obvious financial reasons.
  4. Bandit is a mega-mixed breed. He’s part staffy, part jack russel (I know right? lol), part collie. We also think there may be some whippet or lurcher too judging by his looks and agility.
  5. He loves his purple frisbee. It’s the only toy he will always go back to and he just loves sitting in the garden playing with it between his paws and rolling around in the grass with it. And he loves catching it when he eventually lets us take it to throw.

  6. He is a very gentle kisser. I told him no kissing my face and he snuck up behind me on the sofa and when I turned to face him, he quickly kissed my lips so gently you wouldn’t have even felt it and then he ran off like a shy child. it was equal parts hilarious and adorable and I love him so much.
  7. Bandit hates water. On his first trip to the beach, he refused to go anywhere near the water. We threw his ball, even tried dragging him in and he found the tiniest rock to stand on to keep him out of the water. Even the other dogs were trying to get him to play with him and his was like nope nope nope.
  8. He rarely sleeps in his own bed. Bandit has a bed in the living room, both bedrooms and a spare bed in the wardrobe and he sleeps in none of them. At meal times, he’ll lie in his bed but at bed time, he’s in either my bed or mum’s and he usually goes between the two throughout the night so I’ll wake up when I feel his elbow knock into my bladder (refer to point 2).
  9. Bubba loves his chicken. Another reason we’re best buds because I too, love chicken. If I’m eating chicken, I have to share but not vice versa obvs. He doesn’t share.
  10. When he gets scared, he hides in the bathroom. If we’re watching a movie and there’s a loud noise or we scream/jolt, he’ll get up and go to the bathroom even though we’re apologising and begging him not to go.

Those are just a few facts about my absolute favourite little man. I hope you enjoyed this post and please let me know in the comments some fun facts about your pet/s!

Dear Dog Owners: Basic Etiquette

Lifestyle, Lists

I’ve been wanting to write this post for a few months now. It’s been bugging me for so long how many dog owners in my town just casually neglect the basic etiquette of dog ownership. I’m only highlighting the very simple rules and responsibilities of dog owners so I won’t be bringing anything new to the table with this post but I hope this acts as a reminder to people.

Never put your dog’s name on the ID tag

You shouldn’t put your dog’s name on their ID tag because it can make it easier for dog-nappers to move them on to a new family no questions asked. I mean, if your dog hears their name they’re going to respond aren’t they? ID tags should contain owner information (name, address, phone number) so that your dog can be returned to you in the event of them being stolen or going missing. As of April 2016, all dogs in England and Wales HAVE to be microchipped which is another good way to ensure your pooch is returned to you if they go missing.

Always use a leash

A leash is there for YOUR DOG’S SAFETY. Not anyone else’s. What if your dog encounters another dog and they don’t get along, a leash will give you a hell of a lot more control over your dog’s safety than frantically trying to grab at their collar without getting yourself injured in the process. What if someone tries to kidnap your dog? How are you going to catch up if your dog wanders off and they’re able to quickly put a leash on and hop into a car and drive off? I know these are extreme cases but it’s always worth using a leash with your dog. It doesn’t matter how friendly your dog is. Any animal – no matter how friendly – has its limits. You don’t want anything bad to happen to your dog so please use a leash.

Clean up after your dog!

This is the most obvious and yet it seems to always be tossed out the window. And I’ve noticed it’s mostly older people who don’t even bother to take bags with them! It takes less than a minute to take out a bag, pick up the poop and tie up the bag. Who cares it you have to carry it for a while! It’s not about you, it’s about cleaning up after your dog! No one likes to go for a peaceful walk with their dog and be met with smelly lumps of poo because some idiot couldn’t be bothered to pick it up. There’s no excuse to not be carrying bags and you can always ask other dog walkers if they have extra bags. In fact, you can even buy bag dispensers which clip-on to your leash (which should you should also be using). Sometimes I think the people in my town deliberately let their dog off the leash so they can use it as an excuse not to pick up their poop. Um no?

Always carry water

Your dog is going to get thirsty on a walk, especially long walks or when the weather is pretty warm (ie now). You should always carry a bottle of water and a container to pour it into for your dog. It also comes in very handy to clean up/dilute any poops that can’t be picked up (non-solid/diarrhea poops) so there’s literally never an excuse to leave poop lying. Carrying it in a bottle means you can drink it and then pour it into a container or pop-up bowl for your dog to drink too. Win Win.

I kept this brief and to the main points that really annoy me when I’m out with Bandit. I want my dog to be safe and I want to be able to go for a nice walk without watching my every step please and thank you.

Guide to Staying Safe in the Sun

The last few weeks have been rather hot here in the UK and I’ve noticed a worrying increase in the number of people posting about their sunburn or heat stroke and I feel the need to write this post to give some very basic but vital tips to staying safe in the sun, avoiding sun burn and heat stroke and reducing your risk of skin cancer, which is a big concern in the UK because we rarely get any heat like this so naturally, we don’t think about such consequences.

Here are some basic tips to keep yourself safe this summer.

sun care, sun protection, spf, sun protection factor, guide to staying safe in the sun, guide to suncare, how to stay safe in the sun,

Use appropriate SPF. Adults should use SPF 20+ or 30+ for sensitive skins. Children should use the highest factor available or 30+ at the very least.

Remember to fully cover your ears, nose and the back of your neck. Ideally using a higher SPF as these areas are more sensitive. Hands and feet should be protected adequately and in the crease of your knees and elbows as they are often forgotten or overlooked.

Avoiding Sunburn / Heat Stroke

Drink plenty cold water. Keep a large bottle in the fridge to top yourself up and be sure to drink water in between any alcoholic or fizzy drinks as well as these can dehydrate you.

Apply SPF every hour, or after contact with water or sweating. Top up sensitive areas (nose, ears, neck) more frequently if required.

Go indoors regularly. Especially in Peak Sun (12-3pm GMT). It’s important you take regular breaks from the sun to ensure your body can recover from any exposure. This is a good time to top up your sun cream and hydrate!
Aim to go in the shade or indoors for at least 20 minutes every 2-3 hours. During peak sun times, stay inside for the duration as at this time, you are more likely to get sunburn and suffer heat stroke, as well as increasing the exposure to UV filters which contribute to skin cancer.

Wear protection. Haw haw, not a condom. Wear a hat, sunglasses and get an umbrella stuck in the garden for shade.

In summary:

Apply SPF 20+ every hour.
Go indoors between 12-3pm.
Drink plenty WATER, not alcohol.
Cover up with a hat and sunglasses.

Your tan is less important than your health.

What are your top tips for staying safe in the sun? What are your go-to SPF products? Let me know in the comments.
